Still practising with faces and proportions… These are my last drawings and this time I wanted to try charcoal. The photos are not very good as usual and a bit blurry.
I found it a little messy, but the effect it produces on paper is better than graphite in my opinion. (great rich blacks!). I’m still exploring mediums and techniques.
I’m also trying to have a little more rough style but most of all I’m focusing on proportions and in placing features correctly.

R.Mitchum - General's Carbon pencil -white chalk on toned rough paper

SInatra #2- General's Carbon soft pencil on medium surface paper

H. Fonda - Contè 1710 3B Charcoal pencil - smooth paper

Hi people… I post this drawing I did maybe a couple of months ago. The man is a young Orson Welles in Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

I wanted to post my last portrait of John Wayne but I couldn’t find the photo I took of it on my PC…

O.Welles Portrait - Macbeth

Here is a previous portrait I did of a friend’s son.

I definetly need to learn to take better shots of mydrawings, but I find it very hard because of graphite glares…The paper is white but it always seems grey in the pictures and the drawing values change from the original.Maybe I’ll try to post a new photo of this drawing later, ’cause this one is horrible…

Francesca - graphite pencil

Franci (Oct-09) – Graphite drawing

Portrait of Sinatra -graphite and vine charcoal

Drawing has always been my passion since I was a child. Unfortunatelly, through the years I’ve left my pencils in a box ’cause I had first to go to university and after that I had to (and I still have to) work hard all the time…

Now I’m trying to draw again; I found it very difficult at my first attempts and I had to learn again to see and discern shadows. I’m sure that I need a lot of practising if I want to achieve a good skill, so I decided on last october to draw almost three times in a month, focusing on portrait drawing.

I draw without grid on reference photos (photos are my only resource for models at this time), because I love the part that involves catching proportions just watching at the model and measuring with the pencil. (It’s a great challenge and I’m still struggling with that!).

Anyway I post here my LAST drawing that I think it’s the best since I started my exercises.(I know there are many mistakes on proportions…)Maybe I will post the previous ones later.
